DIY 2006 will again not be a competition. I would prefer to keep the focus on listening to whatever anyone may wish to bring and allow for feedback if desired. However, this year I expect that there will be at least a couple of modifications to the Insignia 2-way that engendered a lot of interest. I'll have my own version(s) of it.
Auditioning Equipment This year will be more like earlier ones with a couple of additions of hardware, all noted below.
My equipment will be:
Anyone coming to the NE event who has any component which they would like to bring is certainly welcome and encouraged.
Measurement Systems There will be at least two and maybe three different measurement systems available. I will have SoundEasy v12.0 and LAUD v3.0. SoundEasy will be running under Win2K with the M-Audio Delta 410 sound card. I may have LAUD in the living room for making measurements of systems auditioned. The other system with LAUD will be downstairs and available for measurements there as well.
My basement is my work area, so most measurements will be taken there. This will leave the living room primarily for listening sessions, but if it's not prudent to haul a system downstairs, we'll try to measure upstairs when things slow down a bit.
I have a small number of baffle inserts for my large (now 2m x 2m) baffle for testing raw drivers. If I happen to have the size needed, raw drivers may be measured if anyone requests it.
What's New SoundEasy has a lot of functionality. I've been using its Digital Equalizer/Digital Filter (DE/DF) capabilies with the Insignia and another 3-way system. I'll have several varieties of 3-way all based on a Peerless 10" woofer run actively through a Dahlquist DQ-LP1 active lowpass. M/T modules and/or standard 2-ways can be used in a 3-way setup fairly easily.
The capability of SoundEasy can be demonstrated if we can cajole John K into conducting a small presentation.
